Blum is a crypto trading app that grew to 95M+ users. I led the end-to-end design of Launchpad for memecoin launches and trading. Designed core user flows: token launch for creators and trading for users seeking new tokens early. Built a scalable design system and UX architecture that gave each type of user their own experience: casual users got simplicity without friction, experienced traders got full control.

Context

In 2024, meme tokens were experiencing explosive growth: high liquidity, mass interest, and enormous user activity. The strategic move was to launch a launchpad inside Blum for memecoin trading and token launches, named Memepad.

Challenge

Expand Blum's trading ecosystem by giving users the ability to trade new meme tokens and launch their own. Attract a new audience: traders and token creators. Increase trading volume, create a sustainable revenue stream, and become the leading launchpad.

Process

I analysed the key tools for memecoin trading: Axiom, GMGN, OKX.

Key observation: every existing tool was built for an experienced trader, with complex interfaces overloaded with metrics. None of them gave users the ability to create and launch their own token.

The opportunity was to combine this in one product: a fully-featured trading tool for different types of traders and the ability to launch your own token for creators.

Who Trades on Memepad

Memepad served two types of traders with fundamentally different approaches. A regular user wanted to find an interesting token and buy it quickly, without digging into details. An experienced trader would check dev, top 10 holders, liquidity, volume, and bundler before entering a position, and needed fast order execution.
Regular user

Everyone in the chat is talking about a new token. I want to buy it right now, fast, with no extra steps.

Experienced trader

I need to check dev, top 10, liquidity, and bundler, and get in before the hype to profit from the rise.

One interface couldn't serve both. But in Memepad the stakes are higher than in spot: the moment of entry on the bonding curve directly affects the outcome. For the regular user, this goes unnoticed. For the experienced trader, the moment of entry decides everything.

Key insight — each type of user needs an interface built around how they actually trade.

Mode Selection: Lite and Degen

Lite and Degen — an architectural solution I scaled consistently across all trading products in Blum, so every user could choose a comfortable way to trade based on their experience and style. Mode selection happens at a natural moment: in Discover, when opening the token list, or via the Trade button in the navigation bar. The user can switch modes at any time. The choice persists across sessions.

Lite Mode

Lite mode is designed to reduce cognitive load for users who want to buy a token quickly. The token page shows only what's needed to make a decision: price, chart, and bonding curve progress, showing how much has been collected before listing on DEX. Everything else is one level deeper, available but out of the way.

Degen Mode

Degen mode is built for speed: everything on one screen. The trader needs to assess the token and act fast, everything needed must be on screen at once. In the token list, advanced filters and metrics directly in the card, including dev and bundler for fast entry decisions. On the token page, market cap, price, liquidity, volume, and holders are always visible, plus limit orders, TP/SL, slippage settings, priority fee, and bribe.

All open positions in one place — full portfolio view with current value, average buy price, and unrealized PnL for each token.

A live feed of other users' buys and sells in real time. Helps quickly assess trading activity and make decisions based on current market context.

Holder distribution at a glance — top wallets, creator share, and liquidity pool concentration. Helps spot risks before making a trade.

Launch Token

Any user could launch their own token, no technical knowledge required. After launch, the token instantly appears in Memepad under the New tab, becomes available to Blum's audience, and is immediately open for trading. The creator gets direct access to an audience and first liquidity.

Key Design Decisions

The core decision was to treat Lite and Degen as two separate interfaces, each built around a different way of trading. The choice between them depends not on how long someone has been in crypto, but on how they trade. Each user chooses a mode based on their experience and trading style, and can grow from one to the other without feeling like they've switched products.

Token lifecycle navigation gives traders clarity at every stage, from first appearance to DEX listing. Each tab reflects a specific moment in a token's journey, so traders always know where it stands and when to act.

Results

I designed Memepad that became the Top-1 Launchpad in TON and Top-3 in Web3. The token launch flow attracted traders looking to find new tokens before anyone else, and creators who got the ability to bring their token to market, instantly reach Blum's audience, and get first liquidity, establishing Memepad as a sustainable source of trading volume and fee revenue for the business.
